Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is— that she is a sinner.”Jesus answered him,“ Simon, I have something to tell you.”“ Tell me, teacher,” he said.“ Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”Simon replied,“ I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”“ You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon,“ Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven— as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”Then Jesus said to her,“ Your sins are forgiven.”The other guests began to say among themselves,“ Who is this who even forgives sins?”Jesus said to the woman,“ Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” (niv)

( All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John. (niv)

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (niv)

The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, (niv)

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. (niv)

Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners— of whom I am the worst.But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal.Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.As it is written:“ See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.” (niv)

And he said:“ Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (niv)

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth.“ Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. (niv)

“ His master replied,‘ I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? (niv)

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (niv)

Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus.But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” (niv)

In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. (niv)

“ Not everyone who says to me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (niv)

Your own mouth condemns you, not mine; your own lips testify against you. (niv)

For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (niv)
