But the people were displeased.“ He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled.

as they try to keep us from preaching the Good News of salvation to the Gentiles. By doing this, they continue to pile up their sins. But the anger of God has caught up with them at last.

“ But the Lord said to me,‘ Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles!’”The crowd listened until Paul said that word. Then they all began to shout,“ Away with such a fellow! He isn’t fit to live!”

But the Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus’ disciples,“ Why do you eat and drink with such scum?”

But when Peter arrived back in Jerusalem, the Jewish believers criticized him.“ You entered the home of Gentiles and even ate with them!” they said.

“ The older brother was angry and wouldn’t go in. His father came out and begged him,but he replied,‘ All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends.Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!’

These people are grumblers and complainers, living only to satisfy their desires. They brag loudly about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want.

But when some of the Jews saw the crowds, they were jealous; so they slandered Paul and argued against whatever he said.

This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people— even eating with them!
