耶和華說：「在拉瑪有痛哭哀號的聲音，是拉結在為兒女哀痛，不肯接受安慰，因為他們都死了。」

萬軍之耶和華說：「把陪哭的婦人請來，把最會哭的婦人帶來，叫她們速來為我的子民哀哭，哭得他們淚盈滿眶，哭得他們淚如泉湧。因為從錫安傳出哀鳴，『我們滅亡了！我們受了奇恥大辱！我們的家園被毀，我們只好背井離鄉。』」婦人啊，你們要聽耶和華的話，接受祂的教誨；你們要教導女兒哀哭，教導鄰居唱輓歌。因為死亡從窗戶爬進我們的城堡，吞滅街上的孩童和廣場上的青年。

他們從伯特利繼續前行，離以法他還有一段路時，拉結難產。在難產的痛苦中，接生婆對她說：「不要害怕，你又添了一個兒子！」拉結臨死前給兒子取名叫便·俄尼，雅各卻叫他便雅憫。拉結死後就葬在通往以法他的路旁，以法他即伯利恆。雅各在她的墳上立了石碑，至今還在。

我聽見好像婦人分娩時的喊叫聲，好像婦人生頭胎時的痛苦呻吟。那是錫安城的喊叫聲，她在喘息，伸出雙手說：「噢！我有禍了，我要死在殺戮者手上了。」

雅各說：「你們使我連連失去兒子，約瑟沒了，西緬沒了，你們還要帶走便雅憫！災禍都落在了我頭上！」

回到弟兄們那裡說：「那少年不見了，我現在怎麼辦？」

那隻手把那書卷打開，書卷的兩面都寫滿了哀傷、歎息、悲痛的話。

雅各認出那件彩衣，說：「這是我兒子的衣服，一定是野獸把他吃了，約瑟一定被撕碎了！」雅各撕裂自己的衣服，束上麻布，為約瑟哀傷了好幾天。他的兒女都來安慰他，他卻不肯接受他們的安慰，說：「我一定會淒淒慘慘地下到陰間，去我兒子那裡。」約瑟的父親為他哀哭。

我又看見有一隻鷹在半空中飛翔，聽見牠大聲宣告：「有禍了！有禍了！世上的居民有禍了！還有三位天使要吹響號角。」

但人一死，就失去力量；人一嚥氣，就不知去向。
