不过这整个事的发生，是为要应验主藉着先知所说的话：

这事以后，耶稣知道一切都已经完成了，为要应验经上的话，就说：“我渴了。”

事实上，这些事发生，是为要应验经上的话：“他的骨头，一根也不被折断。”

这样，那藉着先知以赛亚所说的话就应验了：“他亲自代替了我们的软弱，担当了我们的疾病。”

这就应验了藉着先知耶利米所说的话：

这件事发生，是为要应验那藉着先知所说的话：

如果这样，‘事情必须如此发生’的经文怎么应验呢？”

不过这整个事的发生，是为要应验先知书的那些经文。”这时候，所有的门徒都离开他，逃跑了。

希律死了以后，在埃及，忽然主的一位天使在约瑟梦中显现，

并且告诫他们不要把他传扬出去。这是为要应验那藉着先知以赛亚所说的话：“看哪，我所拣选的仆人，我所爱的，心所喜悦的。我要把我的灵赐给他，他要向外邦人宣扬审判的事。

来到一个叫拿撒勒的镇，住了下来。这是为要应验那藉着先知们所说的话：“他将被称为拿撒勒人。”

这是为要应验那藉着先知以赛亚所说的话：“西布伦地、拿弗他利地，沿湖的路，约旦河的对岸，外邦人的加利利——

耶稣对他们说：“这就是我还与你们在一起的时候，对你们说过的话：摩西的律法、先知书和诗篇上所记的有关我的一切事，都必须应验。”

“各位弟兄，那段经文是必须应验的，就是圣灵藉着大卫的口所预言有关犹大的事。这犹大，领人抓了耶稣；

他们把耶稣钉上十字架以后，抽签分了他的衣服，

大约在此时，希律王下手虐待教会中的一些人，用刀杀了约翰的哥哥雅各。他见这事使犹太人高兴，就又去抓彼得；那时正是除酵节期间。希律抓了彼得，把他关进监狱，交给四班士兵看守，每班四个人，打算在逾越节以后把他提到民众面前审判。

主的一位天使立刻击打希律，因为他没有把荣耀归给神。他被虫咬蚀，就断了气。于是神的话语不断扩展，越发广传。
