Jesus replied,“ Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.

He said to them,“ Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

You weep and wail because he no longer looks with favor on your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.You ask,“ Why?” It is because the Lord is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. (niv)

This is what the Lord says:“ Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said,‘ We will not walk in it.’ (niv)

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. (niv)

And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. (niv)

Jesus replied,“ Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. (niv)

“ Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness, (niv)

They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord Almighty was very angry. (niv)

“ It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. (niv)

The demons begged Jesus,“ If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.” (niv)

I say this as a concession, not as a command. (niv)
