Then some Pharisees came to him in order to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful to divorce a wife for any cause?”

有法利賽人就而試之曰、人無論何故、出妻可乎、

有法利賽人來試之曰：『人可任憑何故而出其妻乎？』

Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked,“ Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking,“ Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?”

Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question:“ Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

Some Pharisees approached him to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”

Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

And there came unto him Pharisees, trying him, and saying, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

Some Pharisees approached Him to test Him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”

The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

Pharisees came to him, testing him, and saying,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?”

Then some Pharisees came, and to test him they asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”

“ There your fathers tested me and tried me, and they saw my works for forty years.

Now when the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

They sent to him their disciples along with the Herodians, saying,“ Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You do not court anyone’s favor because you show no partiality.Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said,“ Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?

( Now they were asking this in an attempt to trap him, so that they could bring charges against him.) Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

And one of them, an expert in religious law, asked him a question to test him:

But he saw through their hypocrisy and said to them,“ Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.”

Then they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to trap him with his own words.

When he went out from there, the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to ask him hostile questions about many things,plotting against him, to catch him in something he might say.

“ It was said,‘ Whoever divorces his wife must give her a legal document.’But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Yet you ask,“ Why?” The LORD is testifying against you on behalf of the wife you married when you were young, to whom you have become unfaithful even though she is your companion and wife by law.No one who has even a small portion of the Spirit in him does this. What did our ancestor do when seeking a child from God? Be attentive, then, to your own spirit, for one should not be disloyal to the wife he took in his youth.“ I hate divorce,” says the LORD God of Israel,“ and the one who is guilty of violence,” says the LORD who rules over all.“ Pay attention to your conscience, and do not be unfaithful.”
