耶穌鄭重地吩咐他們不許洩露祂的身分，又說：「人子必須受許多苦，被長老、祭司長和律法教師棄絕，殺害，但必在第三天復活。」

但我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人們卻不認識他，甚至還任意對待他。人子同樣也會在他們手下受苦。」

她的父母非常驚訝，耶穌卻囑咐他們不要把這事傳開。

耶穌說：「狐狸有洞，飛鳥有窩，人子卻沒有安枕之處。」

又對他們說：「聖經上說，基督必受害，然後在第三天從死裡復活，人們要奉祂的名傳揚悔改、赦罪的福音，從耶路撒冷一直傳遍萬國。

耶穌對他說：「不要把這事告訴別人，要去讓祭司查看你的身體，並且照摩西的規定獻祭，向眾人證明你已經潔淨了。」

當下，耶穌叮囑門徒不可告訴別人祂就是基督。從此以後，耶穌開始清楚地指示門徒，祂必須去耶路撒冷，受長老、祭司長和律法教師許多的迫害，並且被處死，但第三天必從死裡復活。
