But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.”

第予語爾、依理藹實已蒞臨、而人莫之識、且任意處之。人子之將罹橫逆、亦復如是。』

But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

“ But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned— every one— to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people?And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead— by him this man is standing before you well.

But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.

King Herod heard of it, for Jesus’ name had become known. Some said,“ John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.”But others said,“ He is Elijah.” And others said,“ He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”But when Herod heard of it, he said,“ John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.”For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her.For John had been saying to Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not,for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly.But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.For when Herodias’s daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl,“ Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”And he vowed to her,“ Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”And she went out and said to her mother,“ For what should I ask?” And she said,“ The head of John the Baptist.”And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying,“ I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her.And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prisonand brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.

Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.And as John was finishing his course, he said,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’“ Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation.For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor understand the utterances of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.And though they found in him no guilt worthy of death, they asked Pilate to have him executed.

And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one,saying,“ The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”And he said to all,“ If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?

And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said,“ By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”Jesus answered them,“ I also will ask you one question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.The baptism of John, from where did it come? From heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say to us,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’

There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the testimony that he bears about me is true.You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.Not that the testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.

But Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by him for Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done,added this to them all, that he locked up John in prison.

Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples

He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.

Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Answer me.”And they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’But shall we say,‘ From man’?”— they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet.

For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.

this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,

For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,because John had been saying to him,“ It is not lawful for you to have her.”And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet.But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod,so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.Prompted by her mother, she said,“ Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.”And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given.He sent and had John beheaded in the prison,

For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say,‘ He has a demon.’

And he said to them,“ Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt?But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”

What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.This is he of whom it is written,“‘ Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John,and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
