對曰：『我僅有五餅二魚。』曰：『攜來與我。』既命眾人席草而坐、持五餅二魚、仰天祝謝、剖餅授徒、徒轉授於眾、咸食且飽、收其餘屑盈十二筐。計食者男子五千、婦孺且不在此數。

『有童子攜有麰餅五枚、小魚二尾。以供斯眾、何濟於事？』耶穌曰：『令眾坐。』其地有草如茵、眾即席地而坐、數約五千。耶穌取餅祝謝、分與坐眾、各隨所欲、魚亦如之。眾既充飫、耶穌諭徒曰：『收拾餘屑、莫令狼藉。』收之則五餅之屑、充十二筐。

耶穌曰：『爾予以食可耳。』對曰：『吾儕僅有五餅二魚、非往購辦、安能供斯眾？』蓋當時人數不下五千、耶穌乃諭其徒曰：『令眾列坐、每列五十。』諸徒如命使眾列坐。耶穌乃持五餅二魚、仰天祈祝、剖而授徒、陳之眾前；眾食且飽、拾餘屑得十二筐。

耶穌謂之曰：『愚人哉！何爾心之冥頑、而不信歷來先知之所言乎？基督不當先受苦難、而躋於光榮乎？』於是始自摩西以至歷代先知、凡經中之有關於己者、悉為詳釋。

耶穌曰：『爾曹亦依然無識耶？豈不知入於口者、運於腹而遺於廁乎？

耶穌曰：『先視存餅。』既悉、報曰：『餅五枚、魚二尾而已。』耶穌諭徒令眾成列、席草而坐、眾如命、有百人為一列者、有五十人者、坐定、耶穌持餅與魚、仰天祝福、分餅授徒置眾前、魚亦然：眾食且飽、拾餅屑殘魚盈十二筐；食者數約五千。

答曰：『汝亦若斯無識耶？豈不知自外入者、不能浼人、

吾所愛者、吾則責之懲之。尚其激發熱情、悔過自新。
