那時，人群越聚越多，耶穌就開始說：「這世代是個邪惡的世代，它在尋求神蹟；可是除了約拿的神蹟以外，不會有神蹟賜給它了。就是說，約拿怎樣成了對尼尼微人的一個神蹟，人子也將照樣成為對這世代的一個神蹟。

耶穌回答他們，說：「一個邪惡、淫亂的世代會尋求神蹟；可是除了先知約拿的神蹟以外，不會有神蹟賜給它了。就是說，正如約拿在大魚的肚子裡三天三夜，人子也照樣將要在地心三天三夜。

耶和華指派了一條大魚吞掉約拿；約拿在那魚的肚腹中三天三夜。

在這淫亂、罪惡的世代，一個人如果以我和我的話為恥，當人子在他父的榮耀中，與聖天使們一起來臨的時候，也要以這個人為恥。」

他們就開始央求耶穌離開他們的地區。耶穌上船的時候，那曾被鬼魔附身的人懇求他，要與他在一起。

耶穌靈裡深深地嘆息，就說：「這世代為什麼在尋求神蹟呢？我確實地告訴你們：絕不會有神蹟賜給這世代。」

隨他們吧！他們是給瞎子領路的瞎子。如果瞎子給瞎子領路，兩個人都會掉進坑裡。」

當他們抗拒、說褻瀆話的時候，保羅就抖著衣服對他們說：「你們的血，歸在你們自己的頭上；我是清白的。從今以後，我要到外邦人那裡去。」

耶和華就說：「我的靈不會永遠住在人裡面，因人是血肉之軀；他的年日只可以到一百二十年。」

彼得還說許多別的話鄭重地做見證，又勸告他們說：「你們從這扭曲的世代中得救吧！」
