Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

Then Jesus told his disciples,“ If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

凡不背起自己的十字架來跟從我的，也不配作屬我的。

凡不背著自己的十字架跟隨我的，也不能作我的門徒。

基督既然在肉身受過苦，你們也應當以同樣的心志裝備自己（因為在肉身受過苦的，就已經與罪斷絕了），好叫你們不再隨從人的私慾，只順從神的旨意，在世上度餘下的光陰。

耶穌看著他，就愛他，對他說：“你還缺少一件：去變賣你所有的，分給窮人，就必定有財寶在天上，而且你要來跟從我。”

耶穌又對眾人說：“如果有人願意跟從我，就當捨己，天天背起他的十字架來跟從我。凡是想救自己生命的，必喪掉生命；但為我犧牲自己生命的，必救了生命。人若賺得全世界，卻喪失自己，或賠上自己，有甚麼好處呢？凡是把我和我的道當作可恥的，人子在自己與父並聖天使的榮耀裡降臨的時候，也必把他當作可恥的。我實在告訴你們，站在這裡的，有人在沒有嘗過死味以前必定要看見神的國。”

其實，所有立志在基督耶穌裡過敬虔生活的，都必遭受迫害。

於是把眾人和門徒都叫過來，對他們說：“如果有人願意跟從我，就應當捨己，背起他的十字架來跟從我。

因著信，摩西長大了以後，就拒絕被稱為法老女兒的兒子。他寧願選擇和神的子民一同受苦，也不肯享受罪惡中暫時的快樂。在他看來，為著基督受的凌辱，比埃及的財物更寶貴，因為他注視將來的賞賜。

現在我為你們受苦，我覺得喜樂；為了基督的身體，就是為了教會，我要在自己的肉身上，補滿基督苦難的不足。

堅固門徒的心，勸他們恆守所信的道，又說：“我們進入神的國，必須經歷許多苦難。”

他們把耶穌帶去了。耶穌自己背著十字架出來，到了一個名叫“髑髏”的地方，希伯來話叫各各他。

免得有人在各樣的患難中動搖了。你們自己知道，我們受患難原是命定的。

有一個古利奈人西門，就是亞歷山大和魯孚的父親，從鄉下來到，經過那裡，士兵就強迫他背著耶穌的十字架。

他們出來的時候，遇見一個古利奈人，名叫西門，就強迫他背耶穌的十字架。

他們把耶穌帶走的時候，抓住了一個從鄉下來的古利奈人西門，把十字架放在他身上，叫他背著跟在耶穌後面。
