因此，耶稣不再公开地在犹太人当中行事，而是离开那里，到旷野附近的地方，进了一个叫以法莲的城，在那里与门徒们住下了。

耶稣与他的门徒们退到湖边，有一大群从加利利来的人跟随他；还有来自犹太、耶路撒冷、以杜迈亚、约旦河对岸，以及提尔和西顿周围的一大群人来到他那里，因为他们听说了耶稣所做的事。由于人多，耶稣就吩咐他的门徒为他预备一条小船，免得众人拥挤他。因为他使许多人痊愈，所以有病痛的人都向他挤过来，想要摸到他。污灵每当见到耶稣，就俯伏在他面前，喊叫说：“你是神的儿子！”可是，耶稣严厉地斥责它们不要把他传扬出去。

我们行美善的事不要丧胆；如果不放弃，到了所定的时候就会有收获。

原来你们是为此蒙召的，因为基督也为你们受了苦害，给你们留下了榜样，好让你们追随他的脚踪。

耶稣与他们一起下了山，站在一块平地上。那里有他的一大群门徒，还有来自整个犹太地区、耶路撒冷以及沿海的提尔和西顿的一大群人。他们来是要听他讲说，要他们的病得痊愈。那些被污灵折磨的，都得了痊愈。众人都想要摸到他，因为有能力从他身上发出，使所有的人得痊愈。

就在那些日子里，耶稣有一次出去到山上祷告；他整夜向神祷告。

趁着白昼，我们必须做那派我来者的工作；黑夜就要到了！那时候就没有人能做工了。

无论耶稣进到哪里，或村庄、或城镇、或乡下，人们就把病人放在街市上，恳求耶稣只要让他们摸一下他的衣服穗子。凡是摸着的人，都得了救治。

耶稣走遍全加利利，在他们的会堂里教导人，传天国的福音，并且使民中各样的疾病和各样的症状痊愈。他的消息就在全叙利亚省传开了。人们把所有的病人，就是患各种疾病的、受疼痛折磨的、有鬼魔附身的、癫痫的、瘫痪的，都带到耶稣那里。耶稣就使他们痊愈。于是有一大群人从加利利、德卡波利斯、耶路撒冷、犹太和约旦河对岸来，跟随耶稣。
