But Jesus responded and said to them,“ I will also ask you one question, which, if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.The baptism of John was from what source: from heaven or from men?” And they began considering the implications among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say to us,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’But if we say,‘ From men,’ we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet.”

For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while still in his mother’s womb.And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.And it is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers back to their children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

And they asked Him, saying,“ Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”And He said to them,“ Elijah does come first and he restores all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written of him.”

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.
