Now David was the son of the Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, the man whose name was Jesse, and he had eight sons. And Jesse was old in the days of Saul, advanced in years among men.

Now the Lord said to Samuel,“ How long are you going to mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, because I have chosen a king for Myself among his sons.”

Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and went in to her and slept with her; and she gave birth to a son, and he named him Solomon. Now the Lord loved him,and sent word through Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah for the Lord’s sake.

Now when Uriah’s wife heard that her husband Uriah was dead, she mourned for her husband.When the time of mourning was over, David sent servants and had her brought to his house and she became his wife; then she bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the Lord.

These were the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four by Bath shua the daughter of Ammiel;

Then Samuel said to Jesse,“ Are these all the boys?” And he said,“ The youngest is still left, but behold, he is tending the sheep.” So Samuel said to Jesse,“ Send word and bring him; for we will not take our places at the table until he comes here.”So he sent word and brought him in. Now he was reddish, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the Lord said,“ Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

Then Saul’s anger burned against Jonathan, and he said to him,“ You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you are choosing the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness?For, as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Now then, send men and bring him to me, for he is doomed to die!”

The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Now these are the last words of David. David the son of Jesse declares, The man who was raised on high, The anointed of the God of Jacob And the sweet psalmist of Israel, declares,

Then Saul said to him,“ Whose son are you, young man?” And David answered,“ I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”

For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

So David sent servants and inquired about the woman. And someone said,“ Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said,‘ I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.’From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,

and Uriah the Hittite; thirty seven in all.

Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch from his roots will bear fruit.

Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying,“ Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it?So now come, please let me give you advice, and save your life and the life of your son Solomon.Go at once to King David and say to him,‘ Have you not, my lord the king, sworn to your servant, saying,“ Solomon your son certainly shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’Behold, while you are still there speaking with the king, I will come in after you and confirm your words.”So Bathsheba entered to the king in the bedroom. Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.Then Bathsheba bowed and prostrated herself before the king. And the king said,“ What is on your mind?”So she said to him,“ My lord, you yourself swore to your servant by the Lord your God, saying,‘ Your son Solomon certainly shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

Then King David responded and said,“ Summon Bathsheba to me.” And she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.Then the king vowed and said,“ As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from all distress,certainly as I vowed to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, saying,‘ Your son Solomon certainly shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place’; I will indeed do so this day.”Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, and prostrated herself before the king and said,“ May my lord King David live forever.”

because David did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and did not deviate from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.
