Judah became the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar. Perez became the father of Hezron. Hezron became the father of Ram.

And the sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah( but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

But it came about as he drew back his hand that behold, his brother came out. Then she said,“ What a breach you have made for yourself!” So he was named Perez.Afterward his brother came out who had the scarlet thread on his hand; and he was named Zerah.

These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three were born to him by Bath shua the Canaanitess. But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the sight of the Lord, so He put him to death.His daughter in law Tamar bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara; five of them in all.The son of Carmi was Achar, the one who brought disaster on Israel by violating the ban.The son of Ethan was Azariah.Now the sons of Hezron who were born to him were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai.Ram fathered Amminadab, and Amminadab fathered Nahshon, leader of the sons of Judah;Nahshon fathered Salma, Salma fathered Boaz,Boaz fathered Obed, and Obed fathered Jesse;and Jesse fathered Eliab his firstborn, then Abinadab, the second, Shimea, the third,Nethanel, the fourth, Raddai, the fifth,Ozem, the sixth, and David, the seventh.

The sons of Judah by their families were: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Perez, the family of the Perezites; of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites.The sons of Perez were: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites.

The sons of Judah were Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.

Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez fathered Hezron,Hezron fathered Ram, and Ram fathered Amminadab,and Amminadab fathered Nahshon, and Nahshon fathered Salmon,and Salmon fathered Boaz, and Boaz fathered Obed,and Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.

Now it was about three months later that Judah was informed,“ Your daughter in law Tamar has prostituted herself, and behold, she is also pregnant by prostitution.” Then Judah said,“ Bring her out and have her burned!”It was while she was being brought out that she sent word to her father in law, saying,“ I am pregnant by the man to whom these things belong.” She also said,“ Please examine and see, whose signet ring and cords and staff are these?”And Judah recognized them, and said,“ She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not have relations with her again.It came about at the time she was giving birth, that behold, there were twins in her womb.

From the sons of Zerah were Jeuel and their relatives, 690 of them.

Then Judah said to his daughter in law Tamar,“ Remain a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah grows up”; for he thought,“ I am afraid that he too may die like his brothers.” So Tamar went and lived in her father’s house.

Now Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.
