Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house

Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet.He pleaded earnestly with him,“ My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.”So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him.And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years.She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak,because she thought,“ If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked,“ Who touched my clothes?”“ You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered,“ and yet you can ask,‘ Who touched me?’”But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.He said to her,“ Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.“ Your daughter is dead,” they said.“ Why bother the teacher anymore?”Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him,“ Don’t be afraid; just believe.”He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.He went in and said to them,“ Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was.He took her by the hand and said to her,“ Talitha koum!”( which means“ Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around( she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat. (niv)

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.“ Your daughter is dead,” he said.“ Don’t bother the teacher anymore.” (niv)

Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people,“ There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.” (niv)

Crispus, the synagogue leader, and his entire household believed in the Lord; and many of the Corinthians who heard Paul believed and were baptized. (niv)

After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying,“ Brothers, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, please speak.” (niv)

Then the crowd there turned on Sosthenes the synagogue leader and beat him in front of the proconsul; and Gallio showed no concern whatever. (niv)

While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said,“ My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.She said to herself,“ If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”Jesus turned and saw her.“ Take heart, daughter,” he said,“ your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,he said,“ Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him.After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.News of this spread through all that region. Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him,“ Please come at once!” (niv)

“ Lord,” Martha said to Jesus,“ if you had been here, my brother would not have died. (niv)

Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum.When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.“ Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him,“ you will never believe.”The royal official said,“ Sir, come down before my child dies.” (niv)

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said,“ Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” (niv)

Jesus said to him,“ Shall I come and heal him?”The centurion replied,“ Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. (niv)

He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him— and he was a Samaritan. (niv)

And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty- four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. (niv)
