蓋耶穌命邪魔脫離其人也。而魔之屢憑此人、由來已久；雖繫以鐵索、械以桎梏、輒自折斷而為魔逐至曠野。

For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.

This was because Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times the spirit had taken hold of him. The man’s hands and feet were chained, and he was kept under guard. But he had broken his chains. And then the demon had forced him to go out into lonely places in the countryside.

For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man.( For many a time it had seized him. He was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles, but he would break the bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert.)

甚至有人從保羅身上拿走手巾或圍裙放在病人身上，病就消除了，邪靈也出去了。那時，有幾個巡迴各處念咒趕鬼的猶太人，擅自利用主耶穌的名，向那些被邪靈所附的人說：「我奉保羅所傳的耶穌命令你們出來！」做這事的是猶太祭司長士基瓦的七個兒子。但邪靈回答他們：「耶穌我知道，保羅我也認識，你們卻是誰呢？」被邪靈所附的人就撲到他們身上，制伏他們，勝過他們，使他們赤着身子，受了傷，從那房子裏逃出去了。

他被靈拿住就突然喊叫，那靈又使他抽風，口吐白沫，並且重重地傷害他，不輕易放過他。

他們就帶了他來。那靈一見耶穌，就使他重重地抽風，倒在地上，翻來覆去，口吐白沫。耶穌問他父親：「他得這病有多久了呢？」父親說：「從小的時候。那靈屢次把他扔在火裏、水裏，要治死他。你若能做甚麼，求你憐憫我們，幫助我們。」耶穌對他說：「『你若能』，在信的人，凡事都能。」孩子的父親立刻喊着說：「我信；求你幫助我的不信！」耶穌看見眾人都跑上來，就斥責那污靈說：「你這聾啞的靈，我命令你從他裏頭出來，再不要進去！」那靈大喊一聲，使孩子猛烈地抽了一陣風，就出來了。孩子好像死了一般，以致眾人多半說：「他死了。」

他正來的時候，那鬼把他摔倒，使他重重地抽風。耶穌斥責那污靈，把孩子治好了，交給他父親。

這是因耶穌曾吩咐他說：「污靈啊，從這人身上出來！」

用溫柔勸導反對的人。也許神會給他們悔改的心能明白真理，讓他們這些已被魔鬼擄去順從他詭計的人能醒悟過來，脫離他的羅網。

那人常住在墳墓裏，沒有人能捆住他，就是用鐵鏈也不能；因為人屢次用腳鐐和鐵鏈捆鎖他，鐵鏈被他掙斷，腳鐐也被他弄碎了，總沒有人能制伏他。他晝夜常在墳墓裏和山中喊叫，又用石頭打自己。
