Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”

So be careful how you listen. Whoever has something will be given more. Whoever has nothing, even what they think they have will be taken away from them.”

Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.”

“ So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”

誠以有者益之、使沛然充溢、而無者並奪其所有。

主曰：「故予語爾、有得者當更益之、而無得者、並其所有而奪之矣。

枝之在我、而不結實者、彼則截之；其結實者、彼則裁之、使結實彌茂。

亟奪其金、以授得有萬金之僕。蓋有者益之、使沛然有餘、而無者並其所有而奪之。

詎天主謂之曰：「愚人、今夕欲索爾魂、爾之所備、將誰歸乎？」凡厚積私財、而貧於天爵者、皆此類也。』

『爾等其將此言深貯耳中！人子行將被付於人手矣！』

幸毋自欺！苟爾中有自矜其世俗之智巧者、吾願其人棄其智巧而反於愚拙、是則真智巧矣。

因此、吾人允宜以非常之毅力、恪守所聞、始終不渝。

倘有人自以為先知、或富於靈賦、則應知吾茲所書者、乃為主之命令也。

主召之曰：「聞人言爾、何竟至此、茲後解雇、其速交代、毋掌吾家。」掌家自思曰：「主免吾職、將如之何？耕既無力、丐又無顏。予茲知所為矣。必使罷業後、有人迎我入其家、方為得計。」

此間人士賢於德颯洛尼之人、如飢若渴、樂受斯道、日研諸經、俾明真義；

此固我親愛兄弟之所知也。人人應敏於聽、而訥於言。慎毋動怒、人之忿怒、非所以成全天主之正義也。是故爾宜滌瑕盪穢、徹私去蔽、以謙誠溫和之意、領受其所植於爾心田之聖道。惟斯道能全爾靈。然道貴實踐、聞而不行、自欺而已。若是之人、猶如以鑑自照、暫見其容、而轉身即自忘其形容之彷彿。若能以自由之妙法為鑑、凝神諦觀、念茲在茲、不惟聞道、且復實事求是、身體而力行之；則此人所行、必蒙見祐、無往而不樂矣。若有人自以為虔誠、而不能自制其舌、是為欺心之人、其虔誠偽也。

彼日必有群人謂予曰：「吾主吾主、我儕非奉爾名以傳大道、以驅魔物、以行靈蹟者乎？」予將明以告之曰：「爾作惡之徒、非予素識、其去無留！」

吾憑所受聖寵、勸爾人人、切弗自估過高、務須各依天主所賦之信德平心自衡。

惟見慘無人道之事、入禁地（讀者其深味斯言、）則在猶太者當避入深山、

使我無愛德、而徒能操萬國之音、作天神之語、則猶鳴鑼擊鈸而已矣。使我無愛德、而具先知之靈賦、心通一切玄妙、一切知識、甚至有移山之信、則亦浮華無實耳。使我無愛德、雖罄輸所有、以濟貧寒、甚至捨身以投諸火、亦何益之有。

有耳者、其諦聽焉。』又曰：『爾其識之、爾以何等器量待人、爾之受報亦如之、且加益焉。蓋有者必見益、而無者則並其所有而奪之。』

人若自以為有知、是誠昧於求知之道；

若形體之事為足恃、予亦不敢多讓。人如以此為誇、則予應更可誇矣。

因即發人邀汝；汝來甚善、今吾儕悉在上主前、顧聞主所諭汝者。』

是宜痛絕一切惡意、欺詐、虛偽忮心、譖謗、當如新生之嬰、一心愛慕純粹乳汁、日漸月漬、涵養心靈、以邀救恩。

昔有一富翁、衣紫披紗、日事飲食宴樂；一丐名辣柴魯、瘡痍徧體、臥其門外、欲食富翁几下餘屑、而不可得、更有犬來舐瘡。無何、丐死、天神送諸亞伯漢懷中。富翁亦死、葬後慘受地獄之苦、偶舉目遙見亞伯漢、與其懷中之辣柴魯、乃竭聲而呼曰：「大父亞伯漢、其垂憐焉！予處燄中、苦不堪言、請發辣柴魯沾水指尖、以涼吾舌。」亞伯漢曰：「兒乎、當憶汝生前如何享樂、辣柴魯如何受苦、今則彼見慰、而汝受罪矣。
