The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this. He said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him. He would know what kind of woman she is. She is a sinner!”

那邀請耶穌的法利賽人看見了，心裡說：「這個人如果是先知，就會知道摸他的是誰，是個什麼樣的女人，因為她是個罪人。」

法利塞見而自思曰：「斯人苟為先知、當知撫之者為誰、寧不識此女乃風塵中人乎？」

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is— that she is a sinner.”

Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying,“ This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”

Now when the Pharisee that had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, that she is a sinner.

When the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself,“ This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching Him— she’s a sinner!”

Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw[ it], he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman[ this is] that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.”

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself,“ This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.”

The people were all filled with wonder and praised God.“ A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said.“ God has come to help his people.”

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were whispering among themselves. They said,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

They say,‘ Keep away! Don’t come near us! We are too sacred for you!’ Those people are like smoke in my nose. They are like a fire that keeps burning all day.

Evil thoughts come from the inside, from a person’s heart. So do sexual sins, stealing and murder.

“ You mean he has fooled you also?” the Pharisees asked.“ Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in him?No! But this mob knows nothing about the law. There is a curse on them.”Then Nicodemus, a Pharisee, spoke. He was the one who had gone to Jesus earlier. He asked,“ Does our law find a man guilty without hearing him first? Doesn’t it want to find out what he is doing?”They replied,“ Are you from Galilee too? Look into it. You will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.”

There was a woman in that town who had lived a sinful life. She learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house. So she came there with a special jar of perfume.

Live in a way that shows you have turned away from your sins. And don’t start saying to yourselves,‘ Abraham is our father.’ I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones.

“ The manager said to himself,‘ What will I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig. And I’m too ashamed to beg.

“ The older brother became angry. He refused to go in. So his father went out and begged him.But he answered his father,‘ Look! All these years I’ve worked like a slave for you. I have always obeyed your orders. You never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.But this son of yours wasted your money with some prostitutes. Now he comes home. And for him you kill the fattest calf!’

“ Sir,” the woman said,“ I can see that you are a prophet.

He is the kind of person who is always thinking about how much it costs.“ Eat and drink,” he says to you. But he doesn’t mean it.

Jesus told a story to some people who were sure they were right with God. They looked down on everyone else.He said to them,“ Two men went up to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee. The other was a tax collector.The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed.‘ God, I thank you that I am not like other people,’ he said.‘ I am not like robbers or those who do other evil things. I am not like those who commit adultery. I am not even like this tax collector.

Again the Pharisees called the man who had been blind to come to them.“ Give glory to God by telling the truth!” they said.“ We know that the man who healed you is a sinner.”

Some teachers of the law were sitting there. They were thinking,“ Why is this fellow talking like that? He’s saying a very evil thing! Only God can forgive sins!”

Many people in the crowd were whispering about him. Some said,“ He is a good man.” Others replied,“ No. He fools the people.”

The people heard his words. Some of them said,“ This man must be the Prophet we’ve been expecting.”Others said,“ He is the Messiah.” Still others asked,“ How can the Messiah come from Galilee?

Gehazi was the servant of Elisha, the man of God. Gehazi said to himself,“ My master was too easy on Naaman from Aram. He should have accepted the gift Naaman brought. I’m going to run after him. I’m going to get something from him. And that’s just as sure as the Lord is alive.”

“ For some time the judge refused. But finally he said to himself,‘ I don’t have any respect for God. I don’t care about what people think.

Jesus heard this. So he said,“ Those who are healthy don’t need a doctor. Sick people do.Go and learn what this means,‘ I want mercy and not sacrifice.’( Hosea 6:6) I have not come to get those who think they are right with God to follow me. I have come to get sinners to follow me.”

“ What do you think about this? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said,‘ Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’“‘ I will not,’ the son answered. But later he changed his mind and went.“ Then the father went to the other son. He said the same thing. The son answered,‘ I will, sir.’ But he did not go.“ Which of the two sons did what his father wanted?”“ The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them,“ What I’m about to tell you is true. Tax collectors and prostitutes will enter the kingdom of God ahead of you.

“ So those who are last will be first. And those who are first will be last.”

He thought to himself,‘ What should I do? I don’t have any place to store my crops.’
