法利塞見而自思曰：「斯人苟為先知、當知撫之者為誰、寧不識此女乃風塵中人乎？」

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is— that she is a sinner.”

The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this. He said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him. He would know what kind of woman she is. She is a sinner!”

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!”

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ This man, if he were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him— she’s a sinner!”

Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner!”

Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying,“ This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”

Now when the Pharisee that had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, that she is a sinner.

When the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself,“ This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching Him— she’s a sinner!”

Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw[ it], he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman[ this is] that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

They were all filled with awe and praised God.“ A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said.“ God has come to help his people.” (niv)

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” (niv)

who say,‘ Keep away; don’t come near me, for I am too sacred for you!’ Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day. (niv)

For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come— sexual immorality, theft, murder, (niv)

“ You mean he has deceived you also?” the Pharisees retorted.“ Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law— there is a curse on them.”Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked,“ Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”They replied,“ Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.” (niv)

A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. (niv)

Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. (niv)

“ The manager said to himself,‘ What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg— (niv)

“ The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.But he answered his father,‘ Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’ (niv)

“ Sir,” the woman said,“ I can see that you are a prophet. (niv)

for he is the kind of person who is always thinking about the cost.“ Eat and drink,” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. (niv)

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:“ Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed:‘ God, I thank you that I am not like other people— robbers, evildoers, adulterers— or even like this tax collector. (niv)

A second time they summoned the man who had been blind.“ Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said.“ We know this man is a sinner.” (niv)

Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves,“ Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (niv)

Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said,“ He is a good man.” Others replied,“ No, he deceives the people.” (niv)

On hearing his words, some of the people said,“ Surely this man is the Prophet.”Others said,“ He is the Messiah.” Still others asked,“ How can the Messiah come from Galilee? (niv)

Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself,“ My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.” (niv)

“ For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself,‘ Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, (niv)

On hearing this, Jesus said,“ It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.But go and learn what this means:‘ I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (niv)

“ What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said,‘ Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’“‘ I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.“ Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered,‘ I will, sir,’ but he did not go.“ Which of the two did what his father wanted?”“ The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them,“ Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. (niv)

“ So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” (niv)

He thought to himself,‘ What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ (niv)
