All the people who heard Jesus’ words agreed that God’s way was right. Even the tax collectors agreed. These people had all been baptized by John.

众百姓和税吏既受过约翰的洗，听见这话，就以神为义；

众百姓和税吏已受过约翰的洗，听见这话，就以上帝为义；

众百姓和税吏已受过约翰的洗，听见这话，就以神为义；

众百姓和税吏听了这番话，都承认上帝是公义的，因为他们接受了约翰的洗礼。

庶民與稅吏、既受約翰之洗、聞之遂義上帝、

庶民與稅吏、素受洗於約翰、聞此言而稱上帝之義、

庶民及稅吏、聽而受洗於約翰、且稱頌天主之義、

眾與稅吏、咸受洗於如望、聞其言莫不稱頌天主至德；

( All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.

( When all the people heard this, and the tax collectors too, they declared God just, having been baptized with the baptism of John,

When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they declared God to be just, having been baptized with John’s baptism.

Even tax collectors came to be baptized.“ Teacher,” they asked,“ what should we do?”

All who follow wisdom prove that wisdom is right.”

They sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb. They sang,“ Lord God who rules over all, everything you do is great and wonderful. King of the nations, your ways are true and fair.

Not at all! God is true, even if every human being is a liar. It is written,“ You are right when you sentence me. You are fair when you judge me.”( Psalm 51:4)Doesn’t the fact that we are wrong prove more clearly that God is right? Then what can we say? Can we say that God is not fair when he brings his anger down on us? As you can tell, I am just using human ways of thinking.God is certainly fair! If he weren’t, how could he judge the world?

Apollos had been taught the way of the Lord. He spoke with great power. He taught the truth about Jesus. But he only knew about John’s baptism.

You are the one I’ve really sinned against. I’ve done what is evil in your sight. So you are right when you sentence me. You are fair when you judge me.

So Paul asked,“ Then what baptism did you receive?”“ John’s baptism,” they replied.

“ Which of the two sons did what his father wanted?”“ The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them,“ What I’m about to tell you is true. Tax collectors and prostitutes will enter the kingdom of God ahead of you.John came to show you the right way to live. And you did not believe him. But the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. You saw this. But even then you did not turn away from your sins and believe him.

Then I heard the angel who was in charge of the waters. He said,“ Holy One, the way you judge is fair. You are the God who is and who was.

They didn’t know that God’s power makes people right with himself. They tried to get right with God in their own way. They didn’t do it in God’s way.

People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea. They also came from the whole area around the Jordan River.When they confessed their sins, John baptized them in the Jordan.

Adoni- Bezek said,“ I cut off the thumbs and big toes of 70 kings. I made them pick up scraps under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them.” The men of Judah brought Adoni- Bezek to Jerusalem. That’s where he died.
