Some of the Pharisees asked,“ Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”

But some Pharisees said,“ Why are you breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?”

And the Pharisees said to Him,“ Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”

So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him.But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand,“ Arise and stand here.” And he arose and stood.Then Jesus said to them,“ I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?”

If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep, and it dies, is hurt, or driven away, no one seeing it,

Then they said to Him,“ Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers, and likewise those of the Pharisees, but Yours eat and drink?”

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

“ Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”

Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.Then the Pharisees also asked him again how he had received his sight. He said to them,“ He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”Therefore some of the Pharisees said,“ This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath.” Others said,“ How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And there was a division among them.
