時值禮日、耶穌行經麥田、諸徒飢、乃摘穗而食。法利塞人見之、謂耶穌曰：『盍觀爾徒擅犯禮日禁例。』耶穌對曰：『爾豈未讀大維及從者飢時之所為乎？彼其如何進天主之殿、取食供餅、而依例此餅固非大維及從者所得而食、惟司祭可食也。抑爾未閱律中所載禮日司祭干例於殿中、亦不為罪耶？顧予語爾、在斯有大於聖殿者焉。爾苟了悟「予愛仁慈、不愛祭祀」之精義、當勿罪無辜矣。夫人子乃禮日之主也。』
