他們就拿住耶利米，把他丟在王的兒子瑪基雅的井裏；那口井在護衛兵的院中。他們用繩子把耶利米縋下去，井裏沒有水，只有淤泥，耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

議會的人聽了極其惱怒，想要殺他們。

主對我說：『你去吧！我要差你到遠方外邦人那裏去。』」眾人聽他說到這句話，就高聲說：「這樣的人，從地上除掉他吧！他是該死的。」大家一邊喧嚷一邊摔衣裳，向空中撒灰塵。

官長們惱怒耶利米，打了他，把他囚在約拿單文士的房屋中，因為他們把這屋子當作監牢。耶利米來到地牢，進入牢房，在那裏拘留多日。

那時，上帝的靈感動耶何耶大的兒子撒迦利亞祭司，他就站在上面，對百姓說：「上帝如此說：『你們為何干犯耶和華的誡命，以致不得亨通呢？因為你們離棄耶和華，所以他也離棄你們。』」眾人謀害撒迦利亞，照着王的吩咐，在耶和華殿的院內用石頭打死他。

眾人聽見這些話，心中極其惱怒，向司提反咬牙切齒。

耶穌從那裏出來，文士和法利賽人就開始極力地催逼他，盤問他許多事，伺機要抓他的話柄。

亞撒惱恨先見，為了這事向他發怒，將他囚在監裏。那時亞撒也虐待一些百姓。

他們怒氣填胸，彼此商議怎樣對付耶穌。

這些猶太人不但殺了主耶穌和先知們，又把我們趕出去。他們令上帝不悅，且與眾人為敵，阻撓我們傳道給外邦人，使他們得救，以致常常惡貫滿盈，但上帝的憤怒終於臨到他們身上。
