约翰说：“正如先知以赛亚所说的，我就是在旷野里呼喊的声音：‘你们当修直主的道。’”

你们自己可以为我见证：我曾经说过‘我不是基督，而是奉差派在他前面的。’迎娶新娘的是新郎。新郎的朋友站在那里，听到新郎的声音，就欢喜快乐。这样，我这喜乐得以满足了。他必兴旺，我必衰微。”那从上面来的，是在万有之上；那从地而出的，属于地，而且所说的也属于地。那从天上来的，是在万有之上，他见证他所看到的、他所听到的，可是没有人接受他的见证。那接受他见证的人，就印证了神是真实的。神所差派的那一位，就说神的话语，因为神不靠着量度赐下圣灵。父爱子，把一切都交在他手里了。信从子的人，就有永恒的生命；但是不肯信从子的人，见不到生命，而且神的震怒也停留在他身上。

而你——孩子啊！你将被称为至高者的先知，因为你将走在主的前面，预备他的路，藉着罪得赦免，赐给他的子民救恩的知识。因着我们神怜悯的心肠，黎明的曙光将从高天临到我们，照亮那些坐在黑暗和死亡阴影中的人，引导我们的脚步进入平安之路。”

他为见证而来，是要为这光做见证，好让人都藉着他相信。

约翰回答说：“我用水施洗，但有一位站在你们中间，是你们不认识的，他是那在我之后来的，我就是为他解鞋带也不配。”这些事发生在约旦河对岸的伯大尼，就是约翰施洗的地方。第二天，约翰看见耶稣向他走来，就说：“看哪，神的羔羊，除去世人罪孽的！这一位就是我所说的‘那在我之后来的人，已成为在我前面的，因为在我之前他就存在了。’我以前也不认识他，但为了让他向以色列显明，所以我来用水施洗。”约翰又见证说：“我看到圣灵好像鸽子从天上降临，停留在他身上。我以前也不认识他，可是那派我用水施洗的对我说：‘如果你看见圣灵降临在谁身上，又停留在谁身上，谁就是用圣灵施洗的那一位。’我看到了，就见证：这一位就是神的儿子。”过了一天，约翰和他的两个门徒又站在那里。约翰看着耶稣走过，就说：“看哪，神的羔羊！”

在旷野有声音呼喊着：‘你们当预备主的道，当修直他的路！’”

他将使许多以色列子民归向主——他们的神。他将藉着以利亚的灵和能力，在主的面前先行，使父亲的心转向儿女，使悖逆的人转向义人的智慧，好为主准备一群预备好了的子民。”

这约翰就是藉着先知以赛亚所说的那个人。以赛亚说：“在旷野有声音呼喊着：‘你们当预备主的道，当修直他的路！’”

他必使父亲的心转向儿女，使儿女的心转向他们的父亲，以免我来击打这地、施行命定的灭绝。”

耶和华说：“筑起，筑起！预备道路！移除我子民路上的绊脚石！”

通过，通过城门！预备子民的道路！筑起，筑起大道！清除石头，为万民高举旗帜！
