Then the other twin was born with his hand grasping Esau’s heel. So they named him Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when the twins were born.

“ God also gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision at that time. So when Abraham became the father of Isaac, he circumcised him on the eighth day. And the practice was continued when Isaac became the father of Jacob, and when Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs of the Israelite nation.

When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah.After the birth of Terah, Nahor lived another 119 years and had other sons and daughters.After Terah was 70 years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.This is the account of Terah’s family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot.But Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, the land of his birth, while his father, Terah, was still living.Meanwhile, Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah.( Milcah and her sister Iscah were daughters of Nahor’s brother Haran.)But Sarai was unable to become pregnant and had no children.One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter in law Sarai( his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot( his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there.Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Haran.

So this is the family line descended from Shem: Arphaxad, Shelah,Eber, Peleg, Reu,Serug, Nahor, Terah,and Abram, later known as Abraham.The sons of Abraham were Isaac and Ishmael.

Joshua said to the people,“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Long ago your ancestors, including Terah, the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates River, and they worshiped other gods.

Abraham was the father of Isaac. The sons of Isaac were Esau and Israel.
