Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John.But John tried to talk him out of it.“ I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said,“ so why are you coming to me?”But Jesus said,“ It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him.After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River.As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove.And a voice from heaven said,“ You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

“ Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray,‘ Father, save me from this hour’? But this is the very reason I came!Father, bring glory to your name.” Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying,“ I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again.”

About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray.And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.

But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.

After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them,“ Who do people say I am?”
