It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove.Then a voice came from heaven,“ You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

“ Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say?‘ Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying,“ I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray.As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening.

So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.

And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying,“ Who do the crowds say that I am?”
