Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River.But John tried to prevent him, saying,“ I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?”So Jesus replied to him,“ Let it happen now, for it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John yielded to him.After Jesus was baptized, just as he was coming up out of the water, the heavens opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming on him.And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my one dear Son; in him I take great delight.”

Now in those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan River.And just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.And a voice came from heaven:“ You are my one dear Son; in you I take great delight.”

“ Now my soul is greatly distressed. And what should I say?‘ Father, deliver me from this hour’? No, but for this very reason I have come to this hour.Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven,“ I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

Now about eight days after these sayings, Jesus took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up the mountain to pray.As he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became very bright, a brilliant white.

Yet Jesus himself frequently withdrew to the wilderness and prayed.

And after he sent the crowds away, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone.

Once when Jesus was praying by himself, and his disciples were nearby, he asked them,“ Who do the crowds say that I am?”
