Then Jesus* arrived from Galilee at the Jordan, coming to John to be baptized by him.But John tried to prevent Him, saying,“ I have the need to be baptized by You, and yet You are coming to me?”But Jesus, answering, said to him,“ Allow it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he* allowed Him.After He was baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and settling on Him,and behold, a voice from the heavens said,“ This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.And immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon Him;and a voice came from the heavens:“ You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

“ Now My soul has become troubled; and what am I to say?‘ Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven:“ I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”

About eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter, John, and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming.

But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.

After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.

And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying,“ Who do the people say that I am?”
