他們用石頭打司提反的時候，他呼求說：“主耶穌啊，求你接收我的靈魂！”

耶穌嘗了那酸酒，說：“成了！”就低下頭，斷了氣。

他被罵的時候不還嘴，受苦的時候也不說恐嚇的話；只把自己交託給那公義的審判者。

下午三點的時候，耶穌大聲呼號：“以羅伊，以羅伊，拉馬撒巴各大尼？”這句話譯出來就是：“我的神，我的神，你為甚麼離棄我？”有些站在旁邊的人聽見了就說：“看，他呼叫以利亞呢。”有一個人跑去拿海綿浸滿了酸酒，綁在蘆葦上，遞給他喝，說：“等一等，我們看看以利亞來不來救他。”耶穌大叫一聲，氣就斷了。聖所裡的幔子，從上到下裂成兩半。站在他對面的百夫長，看見他這樣斷氣，就說：“這人真是神的兒子！”也有些婦女遠遠地觀看，她們之中有抹大拉的馬利亞，小雅各和約西的母親馬利亞，以及撒羅米。這些婦女，當耶穌在加利利的時候，就一直跟隨他、服事他。此外，還有許多和他一同上耶路撒冷的婦女。

大約三點鐘，耶穌大聲呼叫：“以利，以利，拉馬撒巴各大尼？”意思是“我的神，我的神，你為甚麼離棄我？”有幾個站在那裡的人，聽見了就說：“這個人在呼叫以利亞呢。”有一個人馬上跑去拿海綿蘸滿了酸酒，用蘆葦遞給他喝。但其他的人說：“等一等，我們看看以利亞來不來救他。”耶穌再大聲呼叫，氣就斷了。忽然，聖所裡的幔子從上到下裂成兩半；地面震動，石頭崩裂；而且墳墓開了，許多睡了的聖徒的身體也復活了，從墳墓裡出來；到了耶穌復活之後，他們進到聖城向許多人顯現。百夫長和跟他一起看守耶穌的士兵，看見了地震和所發生的事情，就十分懼怕，說：“這個人真是神的兒子。”有許多婦女在那裡遠遠地觀看；她們是從加利利開始跟隨耶穌服事他的。她們中間有抹大拉的馬利亞、雅各和約西的母親馬利亞，以及西庇太的兒子的母親。
