For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (niv)

to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’ (niv)

Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, (niv)

Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.“ It is written,” he said to them,“‘ My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it‘ a den of robbers.’”The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts,“ Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew he was talking about them.They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet. (niv)

At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask,“ Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Messiah? (niv)

I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, (niv)

Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him.“ By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked.“ And who gave you this authority?” (niv)

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.For God, who said,“ Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives,and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple. (niv)

The great dragon was hurled down— that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:“ Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.” (niv)

At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. (niv)

Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding grain in the prison.But the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.Now the rulers of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to celebrate, saying,“ Our god has delivered Samson, our enemy, into our hands.”When the people saw him, they praised their god, saying,“ Our god has delivered our enemy into our hands, the one who laid waste our land and multiplied our slain.”While they were in high spirits, they shouted,“ Bring out Samson to entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them. When they stood him among the pillars,Samson said to the servant who held his hand,“ Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them.”Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform.Then Samson prayed to the Lord,“ Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.”Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other,Samson said,“ Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived. (niv)

that the mirth of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment. (niv)

Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them,“ Why didn’t you bring him in?” (niv)
