On reaching the place, he said to them,“ Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike.

Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said,“ Sit here while I go over there to pray.”He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed.He told them,“ My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying,“ My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter,“ Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour?Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed,“ My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.”When he returned to them again, he found them sleeping, for they couldn’t keep their eyes open.So he went to pray a third time, saying the same things again.Then he came to the disciples and said,“ Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest. But look— the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.Up, let’s be going. Look, my betrayer is here!”

And they didn’t know what to say.When he returned to them the third time, he said,“ Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest. But no— the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.Up, let’s be going. Look, my betrayer is here!”

even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud.Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.Each time he said,“ My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation.”

Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.

“ Because you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this world.

My steps have stayed on your path; I have not wavered from following you.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel,“ Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.

Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.

First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs.For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say,“ Who is the Lord?” And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name.

Lord, sustain me as you promised, that I may live! Do not let my hope be crushed.Sustain me, and I will be rescued; then I will meditate continually on your decrees.
