For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

I will display wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below: blood and fire and a cloud of smoke.The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

On that day a great panic from the LORD will be among them, so that each will seize the hand of another, and the hand of one will rise against the other.

In those times there was no peace for those who went about their daily activities because the residents of the lands had many conflicts.Nation was crushed by nation and city by city, for God troubled them with every possible distress.

This expression,“ Yet once more,” indicates the removal of what can be shaken— that is, created things— so that what is not shaken might remain.

I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle. The city will be captured, the houses looted, and the women raped. Half the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be removed from the city.Then the LORD will go out to fight against those nations as he fights on a day of battle.

I looked, and there was a white horse. Its rider held a bow; a crown was given to him, and he went out as a conqueror in order to conquer.When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say,“ Come!”Then another horse went out, a fiery red one, and its rider was allowed to take peace from the earth, so that people would slaughter one another. Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following after him. They were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill by the sword, by famine, by plague, and by the wild animals of the earth.When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the word of God and the testimony they had given.They cried out with a loud voice,“ Lord, the one who is holy and true, how long until you judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood?”So they were each given a white robe, and they were told to rest a little while longer until the number would be completed of their fellow servants and their brothers and sisters, who were going to be killed just as they had been.Then I saw him open the sixth seal. A violent earthquake occurred; the sun turned black like sackcloth made of hair; the entire moon became like blood;
