滿了八天，替孩子行割禮的時候，就給他起名叫耶穌，就是他成胎之前，天使所起的。滿了潔淨的日子，他們就按著摩西的律法，帶孩子上耶路撒冷去，奉獻給主。正如主的律法所記：“所有頭生的男孩，都當稱為聖歸給主。”又照著主的律法所說的獻上祭物，就是一對斑鳩或兩隻雛鴿。

“我吩咐你們的一切話，你們都要謹守遵行，不可加添，也不可減少。”（本節在《馬索拉文本》為13:1）

但到了時機成熟，神就差遣他的兒子，由女人所生，而且生在律法之下，要把律法之下的人救贖出來，好讓我們得著嗣子的名分。

耶穌回答：“暫且這樣作吧。我們理當這樣履行全部的義。”於是約翰答應了他。

他就同他們下去，回到拿撒勒，並且順從他們。他母親把這一切事，都存在心裡。
