那时，耶稣对众人说：“你们带着刀棒出来，把我当作强盗捉拿吗？我天天坐在殿里教导人，你们却没有逮捕我。

祭司长和经学家听见了，就想办法怎样除掉耶稣，却又怕他，因为群众都希奇他的教训。

他们又来到耶路撒冷。耶稣在殿里行走的时候，祭司长、经学家和长老来到他跟前，问他：“你凭什么权柄作这些事？谁给你权柄作这些事？”耶稣对他们说：“我要问你们一句话，你们回答了我，我就告诉你们我凭什么权柄作这些事。约翰的洗礼是从天上来的，还是从人来的呢？你们回答我吧。”他们就彼此议论：“如果我们说‘是从天上来的’，他就会说‘那你们为什么不信他呢？’如果我们说‘是从人来的’……”他们害怕群众，因为众人都认为约翰的确是先知。于是他们回答耶稣：“我们不知道。”耶稣对他们说：“我也不告诉你们我凭什么权柄作这些事。”

耶稣白天在殿里教导人，晚上就到橄榄山上去过夜。群众清早起来上圣殿，到他那里要听他讲道。

过两天，就是逾越节和除酵节了，祭司长和经学家设法怎样用诡计逮捕耶稣，把他杀害。他们说：“不可在节期下手，免得引起民众暴动。”

耶稣对大祭司说：“我向来对世人讲话都是公开的，我常常在会堂和圣殿里，就是在所有犹太人聚集的地方教导人，暗地里我并没有讲什么。

那时，祭司长和民间的长老聚集在大祭司该亚法的官邸，商议怎样用诡计逮捕耶稣，把他杀害。

摩西不是曾经把律法传给你们吗？你们竟然没有一个人遵行律法。你们为什么想要杀我呢？”

他们知道他这比喻是针对他们说的，就想要捉拿他，但因为害怕群众，只好离开他走了。

他们又要逮捕耶稣，他却从他们的手中逃脱了。

他们中间有人想逮捕耶稣，只是没有人下手。

从那天起，他们就想杀害耶稣。因此，耶稣不再在犹太人中间公开活动，却离开那里，到旷野附近的地方去；到了一座名叫以法莲的城，就和门徒住在那里。犹太人的逾越节快到了，有许多人在过节前从各乡上耶路撒冷去，要在那里洁净自己。他们到处寻找耶稣，站在圣殿里的时候，彼此说：“你们认为怎样？他不会来过节吧？”祭司长和法利赛人早已下了命令：如果有人知道耶稣在哪里，就要前来报告，好去逮捕他。

我知道你们是亚伯拉罕的后裔；但你们想杀我，因为你们心里不能容纳我的道。我所说的，是我在父那里看见的；但你们所作的，却是从你们的父那里听见的。”他们说：“我们的祖宗是亚伯拉罕。”耶稣说：“你们若是亚伯拉罕的子孙，就必作亚伯拉罕所作的。现在我把从神那里听见的真理告诉了你们，你们竟然想杀我，这不是亚伯拉罕所作的。

耶稣进了圣殿，正在教导人的时候，祭司长和民间的长老前来问他：“你凭什么权柄作这些事？谁给你这权柄？”
