A certain ruler asked him,“ Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

A certain ruler asked Jesus a question.“ Good teacher,” he said,“ what must I do to receive eternal life?”

And a ruler asked him,“ Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Once a religious leader asked Jesus this question:“ Good Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”

A ruler asked him,“ Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying,“ Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

A ruler asked Him,“ Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Now a certain ruler asked him,“ Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him,“ Good Teacher, what shall I do so that I may inherit eternal life?”But Jesus said to him,“ Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.You know the commandments:‘ Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’ ”And he said to Him,“ Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth.”Looking at him, Jesus showed love to him and said to him,“ One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”But he was deeply dismayed by these words, and he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.And Jesus, looking around,* said to His disciples,“ How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!”And the disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus responded again and* said to them,“ Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”And they were even more astonished, and said to Him,“ Then who can be saved?”Looking at them, Jesus* said,“ With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”Peter began to say to Him,“ Behold, we have left everything and have followed You.”Jesus said,“ Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake,but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.But many who are first will be last, and the last, first.”

And someone came to Him and said,“ Teacher, what good thing shall I do so that I may obtain eternal life?”And He said to him,“ Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”Then he* said to Him,“ Which ones?” And Jesus said,“ You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not give false testimony;Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”The young man* said to Him,“ All these I have kept; what am I still lacking?”Jesus said to him,“ If you want to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.And Jesus said to His disciples,“ Truly I say to you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said,“ Then who can be saved?”And looking at them, Jesus said to them,“ With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”Then Peter responded and said to Him,“ Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?”And Jesus said to them,“ Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms on account of My name, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life.But many who are first will be last; and the last, first.

and after he brought them out, he said,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

“ Now why do you call Me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

And behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”And He said to him,“ What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”And he answered,“ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”And He said to him,“ You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”

“ ‘ A son honors his father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My respect?’ says the Lord of armies to you, the priests who despise My name! But you say,‘ How have we despised Your name?’

You call Me‘ Teacher’ and‘ Lord’; and you are correct, for so I am.So if I, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.For I gave you an example, so that you also would do just as I did for you.

And they come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them; for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart follows their unlawful gain.

Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,“ Brothers, what are we to do?”
