Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.

Then the manager said to himself,‘ What should I do, since my master is taking my position away from me? I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m too ashamed to beg.

“ The manager said within himself,‘ What will I do, seeing that my lord is taking away the management position from me? I don’t have strength to dig. I am ashamed to beg.

懶惰人貪得無厭，但他的慾望一無所得；殷勤人的欲求，卻必得滿足。

我經過懶惰人的田地，經過缺乏心智者的葡萄園；看哪，那裡到處長滿灌木叢，雜草遮蓋地面，石頭的圍牆也倒塌了！我觀察，就放在心上；我看見，就接受教訓：再睡一會兒，再打盹一會兒，再抱著雙手躺一會兒，你的貧窮就會像強盜來到，你的缺乏就會像拿兵器的人來到。

他的鄰居和原先看見他討飯的人就說：「這不是那一向坐著討飯的人嗎？」

懶惰人的慾望害死自己，因為他的雙手不肯做工。有人終日貪得無厭；義人給予而不保留。

又有一個窮人，名叫拉撒路，滿身膿瘡，被放在財主的門口，

他就心裡盤算：『我沒有地方儲存我的產物了，做什麼呢？』

因為我們聽說你們中間有些人生活懶散，什麼工都不做，卻好管閒事。

一個生來瘸腿的被人抬來。他天天被放在那叫「美門」的聖殿門口，為要向進聖殿的人乞討。

在自己工作上也懶惰的，是毀滅者的兄弟。

他們來到了耶利哥。當耶穌與他的門徒們和一大群人要離開那裡的時候，有一個瞎眼的乞丐坐在路邊，他是提邁的兒子巴提邁。

哈曼進來了，王問他：「王願意賜予尊榮的人，應該怎麼對待他呢？」哈曼心裡說：「王願意賜予尊榮的人，除我以外，還會有誰呢？」

懶惰人的道路，如同荊棘的籬笆；正直人的路途，是平坦的大道。

懶惰的人不按季耕作，卻在收割時乞求收穫，他必一無所得。

你當清楚知道你羊群的情況，又當把畜群放在你心上。因為財富不會存到永遠，冠冕也不會存到萬代。乾草割去，嫩草出現，山上的牧草被收取；綿羊的毛給你做衣袍，山羊用來作田價；山羊的奶足夠作你的食物、作你家人的食物，也足夠養活你的使女們。

但到了懲罰的日子，當毀滅從遠方臨到時，你們要怎麼辦呢？你們要逃到誰那裡求幫助呢？你們要把自己的財富留在哪裡呢？

懶惰人說：「道路上有猛獅，街市中有獅子。」懶惰人在自己床上，就如門在軸上扭轉。懶惰的人手放在盤子裡，連把食物拿回自己口裡也嫌麻煩。懶惰人自以為比七個善於應對的人更有智慧。
