“ There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.

“ Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, enjoying himself in splendor every day.

“ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.

“ There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen, feasting lavishly every day.

“ There was a rich man who dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.

“ Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.

衣以紫袍、編棘而冠之、

嘲弄既畢、褫其紫袍、被以初服、引之出、將釘之於十字架。

耶穌見其狀、而告眾曰：『難矣哉！富人之進天主國也。駝經針孔較是猶易。』

婦人披紫着朱、飾金珠寶石、手執金樽、樽中滿貯淫亂眾穢、及無恥之事；

將與當日之榮華侈泰相稱。彼心中自言曰：「我乃王后、而非寡婦、必無憂戚之日。」

咄咄富人、爾其休矣、災禍將臨爾身、爾盍哀號痛哭乎！爾之財帛朽矣、爾之衣服蝕矣、爾之金銀銹矣。金銀之銹、將為爾罪之鐵證、而成爾體之烙印。哀哉、爾平生所積之寶、適足以為末日積怒耳。工人為爾收穫莊稼、爾竟欺之、而不予工資。此所欠之工資、亦將為工人鳴冤、且其聲已上達萬軍主宰之耳矣。爾在世時、飽暖逸樂、窮奢極侈、以奉爾身；不敬天主、縱情恣慾、以快爾志。

無何、季挾貲離家、遠遊異域、荒淫無度、

艷彼驕慢徒。作惡轉膺福。臨終無痛苦。垂老猶矍鑠。災難不及身。何曾嬰挫辱。佩驕以為飾。擁暴以為服。腦滿腸亦肥。熙熙恣其欲。

耶穌又誨其徒曰：『昔有為富翁掌家者、人以其浪費財物、告其主、

復為之設喻曰：『昔有富人、土地所產甚豐、乃自計曰：「吾無處囤此物產、將如之何？」曰：「有矣、吾將毀諸倉、而另建大者、以儲百穀諸貨。」吾將寬慰吾魂曰：「魂乎、爾有豐財、足供餘年、此後可安心飲食、姿爾宴樂。」詎天主謂之曰：「愚人、今夕欲索爾魂、爾之所備、將誰歸乎？」凡厚積私財、而貧於天爵者、皆此類也。』

「哀哉大邑、昔以純紵紫絳為衣、金玉珠璣為飾；
