「一個人不能服事兩個主人。他不是厭惡這個、喜愛那個，就是忠於這個、輕視那個。你們不能既服事神，又服事財富。

你們這些淫亂的人哪！難道你們不知道，與世界為友，就是與神為敵嗎？所以，如果有人想要和世界做朋友，他就成了神的仇敵！

「如果有人到我這裡來，而不恨自己的父親、母親、妻子、兒女、兄弟、姐妹，甚至自己的生命，他就不能做我的門徒。

要知道，順著肉體的人，思想屬肉體的事；順著聖靈的人，思想屬聖靈的事。屬肉體的思想帶來死亡；屬聖靈的思想帶來生命和平安。原來屬肉體的思想是敵對神的，因為它不服從神的律法，其實也不能服從；並且，屬肉體的人無法得到神的喜悅。

不與我在一起的，就是在反對我；不與我一起收集的，就是在拆散。

我告訴你們：要藉著那不義的財富為自己結交朋友，這樣當財富無用的時候，你們會被接到永恆的居所裡。

耶穌對他說：「撒旦，退去！因為經上記著：『要敬拜主——你的神，唯獨事奉他。』」

你們難道不知道嗎？你們把自己獻上做奴僕去順從誰，那麼，順從誰就是誰的奴僕：或做罪的奴僕，以至於死；或做順從的奴僕，以致稱義。感謝神！雖然你們過去是罪的奴僕，但現在卻從心裡順從了所傳給你們的教導內容，從罪中得了釋放，成為義的奴僕。因著你們肉體的軟弱，我就按照人的說法來講，那就是，你們從前怎樣把身體的各部分獻給汙穢和罪惡做奴僕，以致罪惡；現在也要照樣把你們身體的各部分獻給義做奴僕，以致分別為聖。原來，你們做罪的奴僕時，不受義的管束；那麼，在你們現在看為羞恥的那些事上，你們當時到底得了什麼果子呢？那些事的結局就是死。但如今，你們既從罪中得了釋放，成為神的奴僕，就得了果子，以致分別為聖，那結局就是永恆的生命。

耶穌對他說：「不要阻止他，因為不反對你們的，就是支持你們的。」
