Now He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him,“ Whenever you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor wealthy neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you to a meal in return, and that will be your repayment.

耶穌復告主人曰：『爾設宴時、毋邀良朋昆弟戚屬富鄰、誠恐若輩還禮、則爾獲報矣。

Then Jesus said to his host,“ When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.

Then Jesus spoke to his host.“ Suppose you give a lunch or a dinner,” he said.“ Do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, or your relatives, or your rich neighbors. If you do, they may invite you to eat with them. So you will be paid back.

He said also to the man who had invited him,“ When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid.

Then he turned to his host.“ When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,” he said,“ don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward.

He also said to the one who had invited him,“ When you give a lunch or a dinner, don’t invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors, because they might invite you back, and you would be repaid.

Then He also said to him who invited Him,“ When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid.

And he said to him also that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor rich neighbors; lest haply they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.

He also said to the one who had invited Him,“ When you give a lunch or a dinner, don’t invite your friends, your brothers, your relatives, or your rich neighbors, because they might invite you back, and you would be repaid.

He said also to the man who had invited him,“ When you host a dinner or a banquet, don’t invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors so you can be invited by them in return and get repaid.

He also said to the one who had invited him,“ When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.

For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors, do they not do the same?

My brothers and sisters, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and is dressed in bright clothes, and a poor man in dirty clothes also comes in,and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the bright clothes, and say,“ You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man,“ You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,”have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters: did God not choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court?

One who oppresses the poor to make more for himself, Or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.

“ Take care not to practice your righteousness in the sight of people, to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.“ So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, so that they will be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,so that your charitable giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.But love your enemies and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil people.Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

The poor is hated even by his neighbor, But those who love the rich are many.

“ Say to all the people of the land and to the priests,‘ When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months these seventy years, was it actually for Me that you fasted?And when you eat and drink, do you not eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves?Are these not the words which the Lord proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and carefree along with its cities around it, and the Negev and the foothills were inhabited?’ ”

He has filled the hungry with good things, And sent the rich away empty handed.

“ Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,so that your fasting will not be noticed by people but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
