Woe unto you Pharisees! for ye love the chief seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the marketplaces.

“ Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.

As he taught, Jesus said,“ Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:“ When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited.If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you,‘ Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you,‘ Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests.For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in.If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say,“ Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man,“ You stand there” or“ Sit on the floor by my feet,”have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called‘ Rabbi’ by others.
