『沒有人點燈、而放在地窨子裏；他總是放在燈臺上，叫走進來的人可以看見光。

『沒有人點了燈、而用器皿遮蓋着、或放在床底下的；他乃是放在燈臺上，讓走進來的人看見了光。因為隱藏的事沒有不成為顯明的；隱祕的事也沒有絕不被知道而不至於明顯的。

耶穌對他們說：『燈來了，哪是要放在斗底下或床底下呢？不是要放在燈臺上麼？因為沒有隱藏的事而不是要顯露出來的；也沒有隱祕的事而不是要歸於明顯的。

『人點燈也不放在斗底下，乃是放在燈臺上，使它照亮所有在家裏的人。照樣子，你們的光也應當照在人面前，使他們看見你們的好行為，便將榮耀歸與你們在天上的父。

我作為光、到世界上來，叫凡信我的、不住在黑暗中。

好使你們無可責備、而又天真，在彎曲乖僻的世代中做上帝的兒女、無瑕無疵；你們顯於其中像發光之體在世界裏，把生命之道舉出來，好等基督的日子做我所誇口的，誇我沒有空跑，也沒有空勞。

我在暗中告訴你們的，你們要在大白日天說出來；你們耳中所聽的，要在房頂上宣傳出來。

耶穌回答說：『白日不是有十二個鐘頭麼？人若在白日走路，就不碰倒，因為看見這世界的光。
