逾越节前六天，耶稣来到拉撒路所在的伯大尼，就是他使拉撒路从死人中复活的地方。有些人在那里为耶稣预备晚餐，玛妲正伺候着。拉撒路也在与耶稣坐席的人当中。这时候，玛丽亚拿了一斤极其贵重的纯哪哒香液，膏抹耶稣的脚，又用自己的头发擦干，屋子里就充满了香液的气味。

还有一些从邪灵和疾病中被解脱出来、得了痊愈的妇女，其中有那称为茉大拉的玛丽亚，从她身上曾经有七个鬼魔被赶出来，又有希律的管家苦撒的妻子约亚娜，以及苏珊娜和许多别的妇女，她们都用自己所拥有的来服事耶稣和门徒们。

当她和她的家人受了洗之后，她请求我们说：“如果你们判断我是主的信徒，请到我家里来住。”于是她极力挽留我们。
