很多猶太人來看瑪大和瑪麗亞，為她們兄弟的事來安慰她們。瑪大聽說耶穌來了，就去迎接祂，瑪麗亞卻仍然坐在家裡。

伯大尼村有個名叫拉撒路的人病倒了。伯大尼是瑪麗亞和她姐姐瑪大居住的村莊。就是這個瑪麗亞後來用香膏抹主，又用自己的頭髮擦乾祂的腳，患病的拉撒路是她的弟弟。她們姊妹兩個託人去告訴耶穌，說：「主啊，你所愛的人病了！」耶穌聽見後，說：「這病不會致命，而是為了上帝的榮耀，使祂的兒子藉此得到榮耀。」耶穌一向愛瑪大、瑪麗亞和拉撒路，

逾越節前六天，耶穌來到伯大尼，就是祂叫拉撒路從死裡復活的村子。村裡有人為耶穌預備了晚飯，拉撒路也與耶穌同席，瑪大在旁邊伺候。瑪麗亞拿出一瓶珍貴的純哪噠香膏來抹耶穌的腳，又用自己的頭髮去擦，屋裡頓時充滿了香氣。

還有幾個曾被邪靈和疾病纏身、現在已被醫治的婦女。其中有抹大拉的瑪麗亞，耶穌曾經從她身上趕出七個鬼，還有希律的管家苦撒的妻子約亞娜，此外還有蘇珊娜等其他婦女。她們用自己的錢財資助耶穌和門徒。

呂底亞和家人接受洗禮之後，極力邀請我們，說：「如果你們認為我是真心信主的話，請來我家住。」於是強留我們住下。
