時有一經生起而試主曰：『夫子、吾何修始可獲永生乎？』

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

One day an authority on the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to receive eternal life?”

And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question:“ Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”

Then an expert in the law stood up to test him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and made trial of him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Just then an expert in the law stood up to test Him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Now an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

法利賽人聽說耶穌使撒都該人啞口無言，就聚集在一起。他們當中有一個是律法師，來試探耶穌，問他：「老師，律法中最大的誡命是哪一條呢？」耶穌對他說：「『你要以全心、全靈、全意愛主——你的神』，這是最大的，也是最重要的誡命。其次的也和它類似，『要愛鄰如己。』

有一個首領問耶穌，說：「良善的老師，我該做什麼才會繼承永恆的生命呢？」

然後領他們出來，說：「先生們，我應該做什麼才能得救呢？」他們說：「要信靠主耶穌，你和你一家人就將得救。」

看哪，有一個人上前來對耶穌說：「老師，我該做什麼良善的事，才能得到永恆的生命呢？」耶穌對他說：「你為什麼問我有關良善的事呢？只有一位是良善的。如果你想進入永生，就應該遵守誡命。」那個人就問：「哪些誡命呢？」耶穌回答說：「不可殺人、不可通姦、不可偷竊、不可做偽證、要孝敬父母、要愛鄰如己。」

而沒有受過他洗禮的法利賽人和律法師們，就棄絕了神對他們的計劃。

如果繼業是本於律法，就不再是本於應許了；但是神把繼業賜給亞伯拉罕是藉著應許。

有一個律法師對耶穌說：「老師，你說這些話，把我們也侮辱了。」耶穌說：「你們這些律法師也有禍了！因為你們使人背負難挑的重擔，但自己卻連一根指頭也不肯碰它們一下。
