你們撒的種多，收割的卻少；你們吃，卻吃不飽；你們喝，卻喝不足；你們穿衣服，卻穿不暖；得工錢的，卻把工錢放在破袋裡。”

“人子啊！如果一國行了不忠的事得罪我，我就必伸手攻擊那國，斷絕那地的糧食，使饑荒臨到那地，使人和牲畜都從那地剪除，

有人在右邊切肉，仍然飢餓；在左邊吞吃，仍然不飽足；各人竟吃自己手臂的肉。

野狗尚且用乳房哺養牠們的幼兒；但我的眾民變得多麼殘忍，像曠野的鴕鳥一樣。嬰兒的舌頭因乾渴而緊貼上膛；孩童求餅，卻沒有人分給他們。那些從前吃美食的，現今都在街上孤單淒涼；那些從前在豪奢生活中長大的，現今卻在垃圾堆中打滾。我眾民（“我眾民”原文作“我子民的女子”）的罪孽比所多瑪的罪惡更大；所多瑪在轉眼之間傾覆了，儘管無人攻擊它。錫安的貴族素來比雪更明亮，比奶更潔白；他們的身體比紅寶石更紅潤，他們的樣貌像藍寶石一樣美麗。現在他們的面貌比煤炭還黑，在街上再沒有人認得他們；他們皮包骨頭，枯瘦如柴。那些死於刀下的比餓死的還好；餓死的因缺乏田間的出產，就日漸消瘦而死亡。

你所吃的食物要有一定分量，每天二百三十克，要在指定的時候吃。

他們吃，卻吃不飽；行淫，人數卻不會增多；因為他們離棄了耶和華，不遵守他的命令。

即使他們禁食，我也不會聽他們的呼求；即使他們獻上燔祭和素祭，我也不會悅納；我卻要用刀劍、饑荒和瘟疫去滅盡他們。”
