“‘ If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile toward me,

“‘ After all those things, suppose you still do not accept my warnings. And suppose you continue to be my enemy.

“ And if by this discipline you are not turned to me but walk contrary to me,

“ And if you fail to learn the lesson and continue your hostility toward me,

“ If in spite of these things you do not accept my discipline, but act with hostility toward me,

‘ And if by these things you do not learn your lesson regarding Me, but you show hostility toward Me,

‘ And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me,

And if by these things ye will not be reformed unto me, but will walk contrary unto me;

“ If in spite of these things you do not accept My discipline, but act with hostility toward Me,

And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

“‘ If in spite of these things you do not allow yourselves to be disciplined and you walk in hostility against me,

“‘ If by these things you won’t be turned back to me, but will walk contrary to me,

Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent. (niv)

“ In vain I punished your people; they did not respond to correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a ravenous lion. (niv)

“ I gave you empty stomachs in every city and lack of bread in every town, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord.“ I also withheld rain from you when the harvest was still three months away. I sent rain on one town, but withheld it from another. One field had rain; another had none and dried up.People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord.“ Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, destroying them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord.“ I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord.“ I overthrew some of you as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. You were like a burning stick snatched from the fire, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord.“ Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God.” (niv)

Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong.Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.“ Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord.“ Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land;but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. Because I tried to cleanse you but you would not be cleansed from your impurity, you will not be clean again until my wrath against you has subsided.“‘ I the Lord have spoken. The time has come for me to act. I will not hold back; I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions, declares the Sovereign Lord.’” (niv)
