“‘ These are the birds you are to regard as unclean and not eat because they are unclean: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture,

“‘ Here are the birds you must treat as“ unclean.” Do not eat them because they are“ unclean.” The birds include eagles, vultures and black vultures.

“ And these you shall detest among the birds; they shall not be eaten; they are detestable: the eagle, the bearded vulture, the black vulture,

“ These are the birds that are detestable to you. You must never eat them: the griffon vulture, the bearded vulture, the black vulture,

“ You are to abhor these birds. They must not be eaten because they are abhorrent: eagles, bearded vultures, Egyptian vultures,

‘ And these you shall regard as an abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard,

And these ye shall have in abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the gier- eagle, and the ospray,

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a depraved mind, to do those things that are not proper,people having been filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, and evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice; they are gossips,slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,without understanding, untrustworthy, unfeeling, and unmerciful;and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

Put the trumpet to your lips! Like an eagle the enemy comes against the house of the Lord, Because they have violated My covenant And rebelled against My Law.

But these are the ones that you shall not eat: the eagle and the vulture and the buzzard,and the red kite, the falcon, and the kite in their kinds,and every raven in its kind,and the ostrich, the owl, the seagull, and the hawk in their kinds,the little owl, the great owl, the white owl,the pelican, the carrion vulture, the cormorant,the stork, and the heron in their kinds, and the hoopoe and the bat.And all the swarming insects with wings are unclean to you; they shall not be eaten.You may eat any clean bird.

Their horses are faster than leopards, And quicker than wolves in the evening. Their horsemen charge along, Their horsemen come from afar; They fly like an eagle swooping down to devour.

Is it at your command that the eagle flies high, And makes his nest on high?He dwells and spends his nights on the cliff, On the rocky cliff, an inaccessible place.From there he tracks food; His eyes look at it from afar.His young ones also lick up blood greedily; And where the slain are, there he is.”

No bird of prey knows the path, Nor has the falcon’s eye caught sight of it.

“ Behold, he goes up like clouds, And his chariots like the whirlwind; His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us, for we are ruined!”

For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

For this is what the Lord says:“ Behold, one will fly swiftly like an eagle And spread out his wings against Moab.

Who prepares feed for the raven When its young cry to God, And wander about without food?

“ For My people are foolish, They do not know Me; They are foolish children And have no understanding. They are skillful at doing evil, But they do not know how to do good.”

Our pursuers were swifter Than the eagles of the sky; They chased us on the mountains, They waited in ambush for us in the wilderness.
