O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way?

Why do you look the other way? Why do you ignore our suffering and oppression?

Lord, have you completely rejected Judah? Do you really hate Jerusalem? Why have you wounded us past all hope of healing? We hoped for peace, but no peace came. We hoped for a time of healing, but found only terror.Lord, we confess our wickedness and that of our ancestors, too. We all have sinned against you.For the sake of your reputation, Lord, do not abandon us. Do not disgrace your own glorious throne. Please remember us, and do not break your covenant with us.

How long, O Lord? How long will the wicked be allowed to gloat?How long will they speak with arrogance? How long will these evil people boast?

Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me?Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed?Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion? InterludeAnd I said,“ This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.”

O Lord, how long will this go on? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your anger burn like fire?

Will you be angry with us always? Will you prolong your wrath to all generations?

O God, why have you rejected us so long? Why is your anger so intense against the sheep of your own pasture?

Don’t be so angry with us, Lord. Please don’t remember our sins forever. Look at us, we pray, and see that we are all your people.Your holy cities are destroyed. Zion is a wilderness; yes, Jerusalem is a desolate ruin.The holy and beautiful Temple where our ancestors praised you has been burned down, and all the things of beauty are destroyed.After all this, Lord, must you still refuse to help us? Will you continue to be silent and punish us?

O Lord, how long will you be angry with us? Forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire?
